Happy Birthday Mackenzie!!

Yesterday was Mackenzie's 5th birthday. She is growing up so fast. I cannot believe that she is getting ready to start kindergarten. She had a great birthday and says that she cannot wait until next year so she can have another.

Swimming

We got together with a couple of our friends and went swimming yesterday. The kids had a blast. It was so fun to watch Kaiden and Luther Jr. play together. In the past, they haven't exactly been friends so it was great that they got along and actually enjoyed being around each other. The girls always get along great so it was no surprize that they had fun with Shaylynn. The only downer was that our "waterproof" sunscreen wasn't so waterproof and we have some crispy critters at our house.

Jason's squadron held a picnic today and invited the family out to see the jet and fly the simulator. I was thrilled because I have only seen pictures of the jet and I have been patiently waiting for a chance to actually go inside. The kids had a blast. Kaiden was a bit disappointed when he had to leave the jet. He was under the impression that he was going to get to actually fly the plane and told me that he was not happy that I didn't let him take it for a spin.

The Flight Simulator

Part of the activities for the Squadron Picnic was the opportunity for the family to go over the simulator and take our turn trying to fly the plane. Kaitlyn was the only one who could actually see over the dash and out the window so you can imagine how well Mac and Kaiden did. I believe they each crashed the plane once. The kids loved flying and I think Kaiden is hooked. He absolutely loves planes. Like father like son.

She's Into Everything!

Maddie has now mastered the art of crawling and she is literally into everything. She loves to play in the kitchen and eat anything she can find off the floor. I forgot what it is like with a crawler. I guess I need to do a little more baby proofing.

Back From SLC

I spent 4 days this past week in SLC for faculty meetings and graduation. It was a long 4 days without my kids. Jason took off work and stayed here with the kids while I went. I am sure it was a long 4 days for him too. He managed to clean the entire house and even shampoo the carpets. It was wonderful to come home to a spotless house. I am not sure how he found the time but he also made the frame for me to put in my office. It takes a brave man to not only watch 4 kids alone for days, but then he dipped their hands in paint to do an art project. I think it is adorable and I can't wait to get it up in the office.

I knew the kids would want something from my trip so I bought them shirts and the little stuffed animal. I do realize that the shirts are big but the next size down was way too small. Oh well! And yes, they are wearing pants under those shirts. I told you the shirts were big.

4th of July

We had a low key, but fun 4th of July. It was kinda nice to have a day to just sit back and relax with the kids. We grilled in the back for dinner and it was delish! Jason is a great cook. We then did fireworks out in the front of our driveway. We didn't spend too much on them because we knew that the whole neighborhood would be filled with fireworks as soon as it got dark. We were not disappointed and enjoyed the show.

I do have to tell you a few funny things. First of all, we had two pieces of unusual equipment come in handy that night. I watched Jason light fireworks with a lighter for a while until he decided it was working very well. I go in the house for just a second only to come out to him holding his blow torch. Yes, he lit the second half of our fireworks using a blow torch. It got the job done so he wins on that one.

I had been snickering to myself all night because he had a fire extinguisher sitting out next to the car. I kept thinking to myself, "why are we going to need a fire extinguisher?" Well, as luck would have it, we did need that extinguisher. Jason let off a firework that got a little detoured into the empty field across the way. Needless to say, dry grass goes up quick when you have a firework land in it. Next time I won't laugh too hard at his fire extinguisher.
